Is it Tuesday yet?

See Ya Next Tuesday is a social club I started for friends of friends to create joy and build community. Starting a social club was an idea I had been tossing around in my head for quite some time. The world was feeling particularly heavy and I wanted to do something about it in the most human way I know how: by bringing people together.

We gather once or twice a month for themed parties, game nights, crafting projects, local outings and whatever else sounds like a good time. No pressure, no perfection – just good humans showing up for each other. And because I am who I am, I created a bright and bold aesthetic to set the tone from the start – first with a website explaining my vision, then with coordinating materials for our first meeting and for potential members.

Before the first meeting, I put together a full suite of materials to introduce the club and get things going: a “menu” of cleverly named activities and gatherings, a handbill with a QR code and new member questionnaire. Then I started planning our first meeting and rounded things out with a branded welcome sign, custom name tags and a card game I created called Questionables to help break the ice.

The brochure lays out the vision – themed gathering ideas, party concepts and the kinds of things we might make, play or do together. It feels kind of like a menu of fun.

The "Please Leave by 9" banner was an element I added after our first meeting when our family decided we needed a hard stop to help keep our usual school-night routine. It's meant to be a little sarcastic and snarky, but also if it's on display, then it's probably a school night – so please really do go home.

Created to help explain what this club is to someone new, the handbill gives potential members the basics and a QR code to visit our website.

I wanted to set the tone for my guests' arrival, so before the first meeting, I created a welcome sign and hand-painted a doormat. The doormat was a true labor of love – it involved taping the rug to the wall, dodging projector beams and more swearing than a sea-faring sailor in a storm. I'd hang it in a museum before I'd paint another one.

The branding, website, recruiting and meeting materials – it all started with a simple idea of bringing folks together and building our village. It's going great so far; we've got several meetings under our belt and we're having a blast. (Find out more and join us at SeeYaNextTuesday.org.)
