A Splashing Good Time

Turning 10 means it's time to stop just getting your feet wet – double digits calls for a cannonball.

A winter pool party was scheduled. The invitation set the tone – "Diving into Double Digits" – and the rest followed suit. The multipurpose room at the indoor pool got a little love: inflatable pool toy letters spelling out Happy Birthday, tables and doorways dressed in metallic iridescent blue reminiscent of pool water, 10 blue-confetti-filled clear beach balls bouncing around at the hands of some spirited boys and rubber duckies and sea life pool toys scattered throughout.

The food table included some of the birthday boy's favs – homemade Chex mix, fruit kabobs, peanut butter cookies and Teddy Grahams in Lifesaver tubes – but the star of the show was the cathedral of crabs. A cupcake tower full of crab cupcakes to be exact. I constructed each little crab out of gummy candies, held together with toothpicks and frosting. They were almost too cute to eat.

Almost.

Our baby is 10. The deep end awaits.
